My Responsibilities: Art Direction, Website Design & Development, Visual Design (2015)

Client: The Alliance Cultural Foundation

Partner: American Institute in Taiwan (AIT)

The Background:

The Art Alliance project, which is part of the U.S. State Department’s continuous diplomatic efforts, provides opportunities for young people, indigenous groups, residents of remote areas, and disadvantaged groups to develop economically while realizing their dreams. This program was first introduced to Hualien and Taitung by the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) in late 2012.

How can we globally promote Hualien and Taitung’s indigenous arts and crafts?

The Strategy:

In order to help indigenous handicraft artists and workshops in the Hualien and Taitung areas, the AIT has launched the "Entrepreneurship in the Cyber-Age for Disadvantaged Women and Youth” Project in partnership with The Alliance Cultural Foundation, an organization with years of experience of working in eastern Taiwan.

With “Creating Jobs and Starting Business for Residents in Remote Villages Project” as the core concept, the Alliance has carried out the project by providing internet related training, and has built the Art Alliance website with the hope that the internet's vast influence will be able to introduce Taiwan’s indigenous artwork and its fledgling micro-businesses to the world.

For the first two years, the website didn't succeed in attracting visitors and promoting local business, so I joined the team from 2014 to 2015, finding the reasons and solving the problem. I dug into this project and provided better UX and UI as the core of my redesign concept.

* The Art Alliance Website and The Travel Alliance website went hand in hand and were re-launched separately in Autumn 2014 and Spring 2015.

The Solution:

The redesigned Art Alliance website was launched in spring 2015, and now it showcases the impressive cultural and creative power of the Hualien and Taitung more efficiently and engagingly and thereby encourages the public to appreciate the charm of indigenous artwork.
